Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, son of Johann Sebastian Bach, was a noted composer and teacher in his own right, although overshadowed by his famous patriarch. Nonetheless, his compositions and studies have brought a tremendous wealth to classical music. Known mostly for his Sonatas, Rondos and other works for keyboard, he was also quite proficient in composing for string instruments. The Sonata in G Minor featured here is a perfect example. Written for two violins with optional cello and a piano accompaniment, it demonstrates the great contribution to music provided by this beloved composer and educator.
