Sergei Prokofieff (1891-1953), one of the great composers of the first half of the 20th century, was also a renowned pianist acclaimed for his brilliant technique. Among his published compositions, exceeding 130, was this "Sonata in D" for flute and piano, Opus 94 written in 1943. Opening to astounding success in Moscow that same year, Prokofieff upon hearing it transcribed the flute part for violin finishing in 1944. This version was released with even greater success the following year. The present edition presented here has been thoroughly edited and contains both the flute and the violin versions in the piano score, as well as a separate pull-out violin solo section. This is a thrilling work from a modern master!
